Is drug use during pregnancy a crime?

There is no denying that there is a huge drug crisis in this country and in Louisiana. Opioid use, in particular, is especially an issue. This means that there are also more babies being born to addicted mothers. People wonder if having a baby addicted to drugs is a crime. Can a mother be arrested or jailed because she used drugs during her pregnancy? The answer is more difficult than one would think.

Offshore fracking poses the risk of injury for workers

Those who work in the oil and gas industry know that offshore work is inherently dangerous. Offshore fracking poses a considerable risk because of the possibility of explosions and oil spills, and the exposure to toxic chemicals.

The risks of botched plastic surgeries

Reality television is making plastic surgery seem like something minor that everyone should have done. Teens in Louisiana are being encouraged to get butt implants and lip fillers. It is highly acceptable in our society. While it is great that people are not being shamed for getting this type of surgery, it also means more people are doing it. Many of whom do not completely understand its risks.

Why is there no outrage over drunk driving?

The news is full of stories about people being upset over the number of deaths attributed to guns or illegal drugs. It seems each day there is a new story about people in Louisiana who have died due to these things, and people get outraged. They demand tighter regulations and new laws to stop the accidents. However, there is something else that is regularly in the headlines and that causes many deaths, but there seems to not be the same outrage over it. What is it? It is drunk driving.

Why do children need to ride in car seats?

In the 1960s, 70s and 80s, there were little to no rules or laws about the use of car seats for children. Things have changed a lot. Not only have vehicle designs changed, but the way we travel has changed, too. There is a huge increase in the number of vehicles on Louisiana roadways, which means a higher chance of accidents. In an accident, it is the smallest passengers who are most at risk.
