What are some common AC defects?

On behalf of Jacqueline A. Scott & Associates posted in medical malpractice on Monday, April 9, 2018.

As warm weather approaches Louisiana, you are probably getting ready to fire up your air conditioner to keep your home cool and livable. AC units need to be installed and used properly to avoid dangerous situations. However, even if you use them properly, issues may still arise. The AC unit could have defects or there could be issues with the installation. Knowing what to look for when you do your annual inspection can help you avoid injuries from a bad unit.

Inspection Certification Associates explains an annual safety inspection should be done by someone who understands the inner working of an AC unit so he or she can properly inspect its components and ensure they are working properly before you use the unit for the season. Damaged components may allow the unit to still operate, but could lead to serious problems, such as a fire, after time. An inspection should make sure all components are present and working properly.

The installation of a unit, even if it was done years ago, could lead to issues. You may not be aware that the installation was done improperly without an inspection. For example, units need clearance around them when installed outside. They need to be able to circulate air so they do not overheat and so they can supply cold air.

You also want to check that your unit is clean before operation. A dirty unit may be inefficient or break down due to build up of dust and debris. This information is for education and is not legal advice.
