Compensation For Serious Workplace Injuries

When workers are injured on the job, they are entitled to benefits under Louisiana’s Workers’ Compensation Act. Benefits typically include a portion of the worker’s lost wages and reimbursement for medical expenses. However, when injuries are serious and leave workers permanently disabled, additional benefits may be awarded.

At Jacqueline A. Scott & Associates, we help injured workers obtain permanent compensation after experiencing serious workplace injuries. From our offices in Bossier City-Shreveport and Monroe, our lawyers serve injured workers throughout Northwest Louisiana.

After a workplace injury, many people are forced to miss work while recovering. In Louisiana, the state’s workers’ compensation laws provide benefits to injured workers during this time. But what happens when injuries are so severe that individuals are permanently disabled, and not able to return to work?

Understanding Partial And Total Disability

Under state law, permanently disabled workers may be entitled to supplemental earnings benefits (SEB). To qualify for SEB, your disability must be permanent in nature and can be either a partial or total disability.

  • Permanent partial disability (PPD) — These include injuries that affect a portion of the body such as loss of vision, loss of hearing, amputations or damage to organs.
  • Permanent total disability (PTD) — These injuries leave an individual completely unable to work, may require round-the-clock care and may eventually lead to death.

In addition to being disabled, the injuries you sustained must have rendered you unable to return to your former job and unable to complete any employment in which you would earn at least 90 percent of your former income.
