Drunk driver faces charges for fatal accident

On Behalf of | Jun 6, 2017 | Criminal Defense

When people make the choice to drink and drive, they not only put their own life at risk, but they endanger the lives of everyone else on the road. People who injure or kill others as a result of their actions, should pay for the consequences of their negligence.

One 26-year-old woman, whose blood alcohol content level measured 0.21 percent, caused a devastating accident. This was her third time being arrested for drunk driving, and was out on bond from a previous DUI charge. Unfortunately, her decision to drink and drive this time caused the death of innocent motorist.

As the woman was driving along a causeway, she smashed her vehicle into the back of a truck. The truck was pushed onto the top of a bridge railing, and a piece of the railing crashed through the rear window of the truck. The 37-year-old driver of the truck was killed and the passenger was injured as a result of the accident.

After being charged with vehicular homicide, failure to maintain control, operating a vehicle under suspension and vehicular negligent injuring, she pleaded not guilty.

When people are injured or lose a loved one as a result of a reckless, fatigued or drunk driver, they may be entitled to compensation. A personal injury attorney may be helpful in answering your questions and pointing you in the right direction when it comes to formulating a case.
