The risks of botched plastic surgeries

| Oct 23, 2017 | Uncategorized

Reality television is making plastic surgery seem like something minor that everyone should have done. Teens in Louisiana are being encouraged to get butt implants and lip fillers. It is highly acceptable in our society. While it is great that people are not being shamed for getting this type of surgery, it also means more people are doing it. Many of whom do not completely understand its risks.

Healthline Magazine reports malpractice claims for plastic surgery generally are a result of complications. In most cases, the patient knew of the risks and was informed before consenting to the surgery, so it is not a situation where malpractice suits are resulting from bad care. However, in most claims looked at, the main issue being claimed was error on the part of the doctor.

According to Zwivel, plastic surgeons think it should be stressed that plastic surgery is real surgery. It can be risky. It can include serious complications. In some cases, it can be a risky as brain surgery. In fact, the complication rate is about five to seven percent for a new patient and 20-40 percent for repeat patients. It is not always easy to know which surgeon is the best either. Board certification and specific training in plastic surgery is not required for a doctor to start doing cosmetic procedures.

The bottom line is patients need to choose a doctor carefully and get as much information about the procedure they want done beforehand. It is also important for patients to realize that a good plastic surgeon will have proper training. This information is only intended to educate and should not be interpreted as legal advice.
