Social Security Disability

The Social Security Disability (SSD) system exists for a reason — to help hardworking individuals make ends meet when an injury or illness renders them disabled and unable to work.

At Jacqueline A. Scott & Associates, our attorneys understand the nuances of the SSD system. We work closely with our clients during every stage of the process — from the initial application through appeals — to get our clients the benefits they need as quickly as possible.

From our offices in Bossier City-Shreveport and Monroe, our firm helps clients throughout Northwest Louisiana navigate the SSD process.

Most Initial Claims Are Denied. Do Not Give Up.

The Social Security Administration (SSA) understands the struggles disabled Americans face when illness or injury makes it impossible to earn a living. Two types of benefits — Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) provide benefits to disabled individuals.

SSDI is available to individuals who spent their lives working and paying into the Social Security system. The amount of benefits you receive is based on your previous income — the greater your former income, the higher your SSDI payments.

SSI is a system that provides support to low-income individuals, or those who have not paid into the Social Security system and do not qualify for SSDI. SSI payments are based off of need and are capped at a set amount.

Unfortunately, obtaining SSDI or SSI benefits can be challenging, and most initial claims for benefits are denied. It is in your best interests to consult with an experienced attorney during the application process. At Jacqueline A. Scott & Associates, our lawyers know how to accurately complete the initial application and help clients gather evidence proving their disability and entitling them to benefits.

Ms. Scott has been continually recognized as a leader in her community. From 2003 to 2015, Ms. Scott has been included in as a favorite in SB Magazine’s Lawyers Poll. A list compiled by local attorneys who have seen Ms. Scott in action.

The Appeals Process

If your application for SSD benefits was denied you will need to appeal the decision at an administrative hearing. At Jacqueline A. Scott & Associates, we can help.

The SSA appeals process is similar to a mini-trial and may involve medical experts, evidence, witness testimony and cross-examination. It is in your best interests to have experienced attorneys on your side, fighting for your right to benefits.
